  • 2026 PRICING CHANGES | Scouts Honor

BOOK NOW: Award Winning Dog Boarding, Daycare, Grooming, & Training Facility. Best of B-Town 2022 & 2023. GROWING WITH HEART Better pet care begins with people who are valued, supported and inspired. Our mission is to create better pet care for our community through enrichment by creating careers, not just paychecks, for the people taking care of your pets. Over the past five years, we have grown from a small team of 12 caregivers into a 35+ employee community built around the belief that your dog deserves the very best. Behind every great day your dog has at Camp is a team of humans that pour their hearts into their work. The people who come in each and every day are why Scout’s Honor has been voted Best of Bloomington every year since we opened our doors. Scout’s Honor is the only pet care provider in Bloomington AND the state of Indiana that starts employees at $15/hour. As the cost of living rises, we’ve made the choice to go beyond a “livable wage." We want to provide thriving wages that support the humans who care for your dogs. That means not only increasing our hourly pay, but also creating more career paths through continued education in animal care, customer service, grooming, training, media and management. We know that price increases are never easy and we want you to know exactly where that increase is going. In addition to higher wages and career investments, we’re facing increased costs in several areas: Higher Pay: Any employee who has been working at Scout’s Honor for over 12 months (this includes over 50% of our employees) will get a base pay increase based on the proposed 2026 budget for the city of Bloomington. This will increase their hourly earnings by $1.36/hour. Health Insurance: Premiums are increasing across the country and we are not immune to the rising costs. We will always offer health insurance to our full-time employees and do our part to ensure they can afford their premiums. Credit Card Processing and Software Fees: Your customer interface and our behind the scenes systems that keeps things smooth and secure. Food and supplies: Rising costs are affecting everything from training treats to cleaning products. Facility Renovations: We are beginning to reflow our facility to make better use of our now 14,000 square foot space reducing noise and improving efficiency while creating a larger grooming salon. New Facility: It is no secret that we are growing out of our current space. This has been one of our busiest years in business and our new facility will have more lodging accommodations, more service options and more daycare capacity. It is likely we will keep our existing facility open alongside our new facility which will create more job opportunities in our community. New Services: In January 2026, we will be expanding our services to include professional grooming and new enrichment options. We will continue to be committed to maintaining the same level of care, intention and excellence that you have come to trust. Non-Profit Support: We have resources our animal shelter and the local humane society can benefit from and we are pledging to always have a foster dog from our local animal shelter starting this November to provide free enrichment, grooming and training services in hopes to make them more adoptable. We are pleading to increase our volunteer involvement and our monetary donations to Monroe County Humane Association . Every dollar spent at Scout’s Honor goes back to the community, into the hands and hearts of the people who care for your dogs, into our animal shelter and humane association and into the continual improvement of the place your dogs love most outside of home. We are deeply grateful for your continued support, understanding and trust as we grow together. Together we are building change that lasts. With gratitude & wagging tails, Allison Jacobs, CEO & Co-Owner Kristen Perrus, COO & Co-Owner

Canine Enrichment at Scout's Honor. Multi Award-Winning Boarding, Daycare, Grooming, & Training Facility. The five types of enrichment naturally overlap because a single activity often engages multiple aspects of a dog’s well-being. For example, a romp in the ball bit is a scent-based foraging activity: foraging behavior satisfies nutritional and occupational needs, navigating through and walking on top of balls satisfies sensory and physical enrichment needs, and the social interaction with the caregiver during this activity satisfies the social enrichment need. Enrichment mirrors how wild canines experience the world using body, mind, and senses together. Anchor 1 Anchor 2 Is your dog mentally & physically Fulfilled? We are Bloomington, Indiana's only Fear Free enrichment-based facility meaning we simulate activities dogs would encounter in the wild to satisfy their physical and mental needs using only science-based positive-reinforcement dog training methods. Enrichment is a fundamental canine need that supports a dog’s mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Just like proper nutrition and exercise, enrichment provides essential stimulation that allows dogs to express natural behaviors, build confidence, and reduce stress or boredom. Incorporating enrichment into pet care services through agility, problem-solving activities, scent work, or group play ensures that dogs lead balanced and fulfilled lives. Every responsible pet care program views enrichment not as an optional luxury, but as a vital part of comprehensive and humane animal care. Our Hybrid Camp & Solo Camp programs provide the best balance of all five enrichment types. Learn more about the five types of enrichment and how we fulfill specific physical and mental at Scout's Honor. The 5 Types of Enrichment Transforming our Industry Meet our Co-Founders: Allison Jacobs & Kristen Perrus Allison's dogs, Scout and June, were kicked out of daycare at the facility Kristen managed. Kristen explained to Allison how dog daycare worked: there were sometimes 30 dogs in each play yard with one human to supervise the whole pack. The dogs at daycare were getting less stimulation than Allison was giving her dogs are home. Kristen explained to Allison that she tried to get her boss to allow them to incorporate enrichment into daycare, similar to zoos, but they thought it wasn't worth the extra expense. Allison and Kristen grew to become close friends while Allison grew her in-home pet sitting business. They volunteered for a non-profit dog rescue together fostering, training, and rehoming over 70 dogs together. In August of 2020 Kristen quit her job out of frustration: she couldn't make an impact on the well-being of the animals in her care under boss. Kristen drove to Allison's house afterwards to discuss what she was going to do next. Allison and Kristen decided to use their excess free time the pandemic provided them to expand Allison's in-home business together into facility services. Allison and Kristen's business model quickly gained international attention. They pushed the dog daycare industry forward by taking better care of animals and the humans caring for them. In their time outside of Scout's Honor, Allison and Kristen speak at international conferences educating their peers on the benefits of enrichment for animals, business, and employees. Want to learn more? "At Scout’s Honor we do things differently,” says Allison Jacobs, owner of Scout’s Honor Pet Retreat in Bloomington, Indiana. “We focus on individualized animal enrichment and on the people who are taking care of the pets. This all goes together hand in hand.” “Not only did we see the need for personalized pet care, but we also saw a need for our employees to be paid adequately and receive the benefits they deserve,” explains Allison. “We often hear that a trade-off for working with dogs is that you don’t get health insurance, paid time off, or other basic benefits you could get if you worked at places like Wal-Mart or Target. We have seen that push some amazing employees in other pet care businesses out of the industry. We knew that if our employees received adequate pay and benefits, we could retain them and grow them into experts in pet care. That was a big drive for us, helping make animal careers for people instead of just giving them a job." Read our cover story Sources Thank you to the doctors, scientists, veterinarians, and zoologists for documenting the positive effects of enrichment in animal handling for the past century. The sources listed below were used to better the lives of animals, better the lives of animal caretakers, create this webpage, create our staff training programs, and so much more.
